We arrived in the UK exactly one year ago on May 30, 2024 (via the QM2)! We have really loved being here, and though the home-buying process was a struggle (and took several months), we are finally in our new home in Newcastle upon Tyne.
We rented a house in Gateshead for about 10 months and were lucky enough to have amazing landlords/neighbors (now friends) and a great neighborhood. We really enjoyed our time in Low Fell.
Most of you remember when we were trying to decide between 2 homes, both in Low Fell (one contemporary and one older). We DID go for the older home (with the bar in the back garden)….however, that fell through after the sellers had “chain” issues. (Google it; it's common here in England!) So we found a new build in a neighborhood on the east side of Newcastle, and it is really wonderful! We are a 5-minute walk from the metro (city centre one direction and the coast the other direction) and super close to several bus lines. Plus we can walk to plenty of shops, restaurants, and pubs. Right next door to our development are two breweries!!

Our house is a detached home with a garage and back garden. We have removed the grass in the back so there's plenty of space for vegetables!

It has been a long journey but we finally feel more ‘settled’. Hopefully we can continue our path towards residency here in England.
