Tanya and Scott Go to the UK: Part 30 - Old York vs New York

Both Yorks have too many tourists. Maybe it was especially packed because we came during the Christmas market season. Christmas seems to be a much bigger holiday in England than in the US (and it's also much more secular.)

With all the crowds, booths etc., trying to walk around Old York's Christmas market is a bit like trying to walk around New York's San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy. Fuhgeddaboudit!

In the last couple of decades, New York has constructed a “High Line”, which is reminiscent of walking around on Old York's walls. Both offer views of the city from about a story or two up and away from all the crowds and noise.

And both places seem to have some presence of people from Jersey! (N.B. Please, no comments.)

That's about it for what Old and New York have in common. We had a great time in the English one recently, and here are some more pictures:

The River Ouse

“The Shambles” (for Harry Potter fans)

Hot AND cold drinks….'who does that?' (if you've seen the commercial…)

The famous York Minster!

Good food

Tanya and good ol' Paddington, hangin' out. (Yes, it was windy)

This squirrel seemed to be posing, so I thought I'd grab a pic!

Hoping to write up a post about our short visit to Hexham soon…..
