Neighborhood 10: Jesmond and Gosforth
So we once again hopped on a bus to Newcastle City Centre and then took a quick metro ride to Jesmond. It's just north of the city centre and apparently very crowded with students living there. Seemed to be quiet when we went, but probably because it's summer break. The town centre was smaller than I expected, but it was quite nice. Very upscale….nice wide streets with beautiful terraced houses and trees. There were many restaurants with outdoor seating in the front.

A LOT of student rentals here, yet housing prices are quite high (sales). We found a great bakery with vegan croissants and 100% wholemeal (whole wheat) bread. That's a rarity out here (the 100% wholemeal bread). Had a nice lunch outside, though the service was pretty slow….I think we waited for 15 minutes for our hot drinks and another 30 for food.

Lunch at Cafe 1901 Bistro and goodies from Pink Lane Bakery
After lunch, we walked to Gosforth, the next town over. It was a nice walk, with some green space in between.

When we arrived in Gosforth, the architecture was really stunning. Beautiful terraced and semi-detached houses to the south of town.

‘High Street’ itself was nice…lots of shops and restaurants. Bigger than Jesmond for sure. There was also a small park nearby (filled with families).

We walked to the north side of Gosforth as that's the area that is more affordable. While it was very close to a metro stop and a large grocery store, it was a bit ‘out of the way’ from town and a bit too quiet.

We liked visiting both Jesmond and Gosforth, but I don't think they're our ‘cuppa’ (Scott is going to love that!)
Neighborhood 11: Forest Hall
We hopped on the metro heading East. Hmmm, this place was not great. Ok, it was a definite NO for us. The centre of town was very small with one pub that had the world's smallest and noisiest outdoor garden (right next to the train tracks) and just not much there. It was quiet. I'm going to say it…it was a dud.

We walked towards the next metro stop just to see if the area would improve. It did not (for our particular lifestyle).

We did, however, head back to the coast the next day and still loved it! We walked from Tynemouth to Whitley Bay, stopping for an iced coffee along the way. Beaches were busy as it was quite warm and kids were out of school for summer.

Where are we off to next????
