Forty Years with Maria

Forty years ago, twelve-year-old me got a brand-new viola from the great luthier (and now friend) Hiroshi Iizuka!

It took me a long time to name her, but I finally settled on Maria. (For any West Side Story fans, I named her brother--- an Iizuka violin--- Bernardo.)

Maria and I will be giving two 40th anniversary concerts next month, in acoustically- and visually-impressive churches in North East England. Both concerts will feature unaccompanied music by me, J.S. Bach, Nicolò Paganini, Eugène Ysaÿe, Max Reger, Victor Frost, and Robert Pleasure. (More details below at the links)

After four decades, Maria is still as beautiful as the day I first set eyes on her. And she's had to put up with a lot from me! If you come to a concert, please express to her your condolences.
