Tanya and Scott Go to the UK: Part 4

Together, Tanya and I have had 14 addresses (mostly apartments) in the US alone. I had another 10 before I met her, and she had 11 before she met me. In addition to our combined total of 35 US addresses, we've been in 48 of the states for one reason or another, usually as touring musicians. (I'm missing Alaska, she's missing Hawaii, and we're both missing South Dakota.)

You could say we have each put in close to 50 years of research into living in the US--- spanning from Northern New England to the Deep South, from the complete boonies to big cities.

Today our house in Northwest Vermont went up on the market in preparation for our move to England. We added some things to the house when we were new here including a propane stove (that can heat the house if the electricity goes out) and some mini-splits, but one of the big renovations was we converted the dining room into a teaching studio. Between the sparse population of Vermont and the ever-decreasing presence of Classical Music, the reality is we've only ever had at one time three (3) in-person students weekly. It's a good thing we mainly teach online!

This has been a great house, and I think it'll go fast. For us personally, the area is a little too rural with too much snow and cold temperatures (we got down to -30 F!), but there are people who really like that kind of thing, and for those who do, this is an excellent place to live. I have to admit, it's nice smelling the wood-burning stoves as we walk down our quiet street after a snowfall.

There are many nice things in the area. The city of Burlington (to our south) and the smaller town of St. Albans (to our north) both have a lot of nice things to do. Also we live right near the bridge to the islands in the middle of Lake Champlain, and we've spent a good amount of time at Two Heroes Brewery! Being an hour and half from Montreal is also a selling point!

This has been a (mostly) fun half-century tour of the US! And now we shall embark upon a new adventure across the ocean. Check in for upcoming posts about our ongoing progress toward living in England!
