Tanya and Scott Go to the UK: Part 21 - The Coast

Neighborhood 7: The coastal towns near the North Sea

We hopped on a bus and metro out to North Shields first. (We finally got our POP cards that cap our daily use on the metro to £5 each, so that saves money for multiple metro trips)

What's a ‘fruiterer’?

We found some good vegan food for lunch in North Shields.
(Most of the case is not vegan, but the 2 in the bottom photo were delicious!)

Not a bad town. It's a good size and has lots of shops and of course, Greggs and Costa. But maybe not a favorite to live near. It's ok, with a few ‘rough’ edges.

It has a little mall in the middle of town…not especially impressive.

Back on the metro to Tynemouth:

Ok, so this one isn't on our list of ‘affordable’ options but since we were out this way, we wanted to visit. What an amazing town! Beautiful streets with gorgeous homes and tons of restaurants/pubs with outdoor seating, a castle, and a beach.

After having coffee in Tynemouth, we headed back on the metro 2 stops to Whitley Bay.

Not nearly as fancy as Tynemouth, but still a nice town with tons of shops, bakeries, restaurants, and coffee shops! And a beach…

This time we walked about 15 minutes west to Monkseaton to check it out and have some lunch. Pretty nice houses along the way. (I guess technically it's still part of Whitley Bay)

Plenty of pubs in Monkseaton.

Yup, there's a vegan restaurant here.
(But alas, it was closed, as many things are here on Mondays/Tuesdays)

We finally hopped back on the Metro and then the bus to get home. A long day, but the coast was quite nice. Definitely a great place to spend the day!

Next up: ?????
